Message from Manuel Maroņo, MDCLC's Immediate Past President
Esteemed Colleagues and Friends:
Being elevated to the Presidency of the League this year was a totally unexpected event for me. I must admit that I was not prepared to take over the helm of our prestigious organization for a few more years but the challenge is exciting and one that I look forward to with enthusiasm. With the dedication and untiring efforts of our Past Presidents and Board of Directors, the Miami-Dade County League of Cities has a well deserved reputation as a force to be reckoned with on all issues affecting our communities and you have my word that it will continue as such.
Our cities and constituents are facing a number of crucial issues both at the State and local levels We need to make sure that our residents are given relief as soon as possible but we also need to be aware of the impact to our cities as well. We need to be ever watchful that their decisions do not result in unfunded mandates that erode our tax base and stress our budgets or attempt to usurp our home rule powers. To that end, I will be calling on each and every one of you to help me provide a show of force when it is needed to accomplish our goals.
I am honored that you have placed your faith in me and I will do my best to continue forging ahead with our mission.
